Ms. Barbara J. Leiter is the co-owner and partner of Leiter Rahme Avocats/Attorneys Inc.

She is based in Montreal, Quebec and specializes in Canadian and American immigration law. Prior to her entrance in the judicial world, she attended the Eastern School of music in Rochester, N.Y. and then obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Southern Methodist University (Dallas, TX). After a first career as professional musician and a second one in the field of real estate, she earned her L.L.B. and B.C.L. from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, in May of 1989.

During her studies, her academic success was as important as her social and extracurricular involvement. She was a member of the Editorial Board of the McGill Law Journal, worked at the McGill Legal Aid Clinic and was a member of the Students’ Judiciary Committee.

She became a member of the Barreau du Quebec in 1990, and a member of the New York State Bar in 2002. She is also a member of the Quebec chapter of the Immigration Section of the Canadian Bar Association (CBA) and the Canadian chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). In addition, Ms. Leiter is also a member of the Quebec Association of Immigration Lawyers (AQAADI), an organization which promotes active cooperation between its members to improve the practice of immigration law in Quebec. Her involvement in these associations not only allows Ms. Leiter to integrate all recent modifications affecting immigration laws but also to share her experience in order to improve and optimize its practice. She has been recognized by a Quebec Court as an expert witness in the field of US immigration law. She has taken part in several conferences organized by the Canadian Bar Association. Furthermore, in order to give back to the profession that enables her to help so many different persons, Ms. Leiter occasionally sits on arbitration boards of the Barreau du Quebec.

Sporty and adventurous, Ms. Leiter has trekked in some of the world’s most breathtaking locations, most notably: the Himalayas, Nepal, India, the Alps, Patagonia and New Zealand. She has also biked in Latin America, Cuba, Croatia and Italy.

Her active personality is transposed to her practice. Ms. Leiter’s experience of over 25 years in the field of immigration law enables her to satisfy the diversified clientele of the firm.
